ST PAUL'S CATHEDRAL
Situated on Cathedral Rd this is one of the most important churches in India with
impressive stained glass work.
Timings 9am-l2noon and 3pm-6pm, Sun services - English 7:30am, Bengali 10:30am &
6pm.
ST. JOHN'S CHURCH
Close to the Raj Bhawan and the oldest church in Calcutta. The churchyard has the
mausoleum of Job Charnock, the founder of Calcutta.
JAIN TEMPLE
Situated in the north-east of the city this temple of exquisite design and construction
is dedicated to the 10th of the 24 Jain tirthankars and is an ornate mass of mirrors,
coloured stones and glass mosaics.
Timings Daily 6am-l2noon, 3pm-7pm.
RADHA KRISHNA MANDIR (BIRLA MANDIR)
Situated on the Old Ballygunge Road, is the result of 22 years of hard labour. The
Rajasthani engravings on the finest quality of marble make this temple worth a visit, not
only to the Hindu but also to a keen tourist.
Timings 6-11.30 am, 4.30-9 pm.
NAKHODA MOSQUE
This red sandstone mosque is said to accommodate 10,000 people and is Calcutta's
principal Muslim place of worship.
DAKSHINESWAR TEMPLE
12 km away from the city centre, on the banks of the River Hooghly, the beautiful
Dakshineswar temple is dedicated to the goddess Kali This is where Ramakrishna attained
his spiritual vision of the unity of all religions.
BELUR MATH
3 km from Dakshineswar, on the west bank of the Hooghly, is the headquarters of the
Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math which has more than 100 centres in India and abroad. It
represents a church, a mosque and a temple and the peaceful atmosphere pervades your whole
being.
